Joining

What do I need to play on RetroMC?

Minecraft: Java Edition, version Beta 1.7.3. We recommend a premium (paid) Minecraft account. The joining guide walks through it.

Do I need a premium account?

We recommend playing on RetroMC with a premium Mojang account. However, ownership isn’t enforced, because Mojang has taken the legacy authentication servers offline. Players on cracked (non-premium) accounts have a dot added to the start of their username.

Can I join from a modern version of Minecraft?

Yes, using ViaFabricPlus. See joining on modern versions on the wiki.

It says “Over account limit 2/2” when I try to join.

Several accounts have connected from your IP address. Install Beta Evolutions 2 to join.

Playing

How do I make money?

Sell items and blocks at /warp shop or /warp market, or kill hostile mobs. To see what other players are selling, use the Player Market Shop Finder.

How do I protect my builds?

Every block change is recorded by LogBlock, and automatic grief detection is active. If you get griefed, let staff know on Discord or with /report, and they can revert the damage. To claim your land, use JVillage: once you have at least $1,000, run /v create <name>, deposit money with /v dep <amount>, then /v claim. See the JVillage guide.

How do I open a shop?

Follow the “Opening a shop” section of the market guide. Once it’s set up, players can find it with the Player Market Shop Finder.

How can I build in Spawn Town?

You need the Citizen rank or above. Citizen is given automatically after roughly 30 hours of active play (AFK time doesn’t count).

Is PvP allowed?

Not in the overworld: RetroMC is a PVE server. The Nether is semi-anarchy, where PvP and griefing are allowed, and ArenaFighter offers opt-in duels. See the rules.

What does [D] next to a player’s rank mean?

They’re chatting from the Discord server.

How do I take over a village I don’t own?

If the owner is active, ask them to transfer it. If they’re inactive, open a “General Issue” ticket on Discord.
